A newly compiled eight-part video series, titled the “Research Data Management Video Series,” has been deployed by the ELIXIR Czech Republic (ELIXIR-CZ) channel. This educational collection is designed to provide a systematic and comprehensive introduction to the principles of efficient research data handling. The foundational videos initiate the curriculum by defining “Research Data Management” (RDM) and its necessity, followed by an in-depth exploration of Data Management Plans (DMPs). Subsequent modules move into the practical application of RDM, specifically addressing the critical “three essential pillars” of data structuring: optimal data formats, logical file organization, and consistent naming conventions. This initial segment establishes the necessary framework for researchers and data stewards to transition from raw data collection to organized, well-planned resource management.
The latter half of the series focuses on advanced RDM components crucial for data longevity and sharing. Key technical areas include a detailed guide on “Metadata and Documentation,” emphasizing the creation of effective documentation to ensure data comprehensibility for future reuse. The program then transitions to the critical step of archiving by covering “Data Repositories” guiding users on selection and the application of appropriate legal frameworks via “Tools to Help You Choose the Right License.” Furthermore, the series addresses the non-uniformity of RDM with a dedicated module on its application “Across Different Scientific Domains.” The entire learning journey culminates in a practical, real-world case study titled “A Practical Guide How to Tidy Up Your Research,” which demonstrates the successful implementation of FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles, validating the robust approach presented throughout the compilation.
