How does ELIXIR work?

ELIXIR (European Life-Science Infrastructure for Biological Information) is built on existing data resources and services. It follows a hub-and-nodes model, with a single Hub located in a new building alongside EMBL-EBI in Hinxton, Cambridge, UK and a growing number of Nodes located at centres of excellence throughout Europe.

At present, 17 member states and EMBL have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to participate in ELIXIR. This is a non-binding agreement, which commits Member States to work towards signing the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement (ECA).

On 18 December 2013, ELIXIR became a permanent legal entity following the ratification of the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement by the UK, Sweden, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Estonia and EMBL. The remaining ELIXIR MoU countries will work towards ratifying the ECA throughout 2014.

How does ELIXIR CZ Node work?

Czech Republic has become the fourth country to ratify the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement (ECA), which is the document that provides the legal basis for ELIXIR. The ECA has already been ratified by the United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland and EMBL. IOCB became a coordinator of the Czech part of the ELIXIR.
